Baccarat Basics

Baccarat

Baccarat is a game that has gained a reputation for sophistication and is associated with high stakes gambling. The game is played on a special table and is usually found in a separate area away from the rest of the casino action. In America, the game is often played with real cash, while European casinos use chips. Regardless of the currency used, the game is still exciting to play. Baccarat is a card game that is easy to learn, but can be difficult to master.

The game is played with six, seven, or eight standard decks of cards. There are from seven to 14 seats for players, and the croupier deals two cards to each hand, one for the Player and one for the Banker. The aim of each hand is to get the sum of its cards closest to nine. If the sum of the cards is higher than nine, it will be worth less. Picture cards and tens are worth zero points, while cards numbered from 2-9 are worth their face value, and the Ace is worth one point.

After the cards are dealt, the croupier will announce whether the Banker or the Player has won the round. If the Banker has won, the bettors on that hand will receive their payouts. If the Banker has lost, the bettors on that hand will lose their wagers. The remaining bettors on the Player hand will win if their hand is closer to nine than the Banker’s.

If the Player or Banker hands have a total of eight or nine from their first two cards, they will stand and no more cards will be drawn. In other cases, the croupier will draw another card to either the Player or the Banker. The Player will draw a third card when the Banker has a 0-5 score, while the Banker will draw a third card if the Player has a 2-7 score.

In some cases, the Player and Banker will have the same number of points and the game will result in a tie. This is a rare occurrence, and the bets on the Banker and the Player will be returned (no one wins or loses). However, if you have bet on the Tie, your bet will pay out 8:1 or 9:1.

There are several side bets in Baccarat that can increase your winning chances. These include the Super Six Bet and the Pair Bet. The Super Six Bet pays out 12x the bet amount if the Banker wins with 6 points, while the Pair Bet pays out 11x your bet amount if the Banker and Player have matching cards.

Before you start betting, decide how much you want to spend and stick to it. Baccarat is an exciting game, but you should only bet money that you can afford to lose.
